The 5 P’s for a recipe for success !

Last weekend I took my husband out for the day for an early Birthday present. Before I tell you what it was (some of you may know if you saw my posts on social media ) I just wanted to say the whole day and in particular this experience, made me realise the power of the 5 P’s for a business. The blog is focussed on new businesses but does apply to every business. If a new small business can hook onto these P’s early, then I think they will have a recipe for success.

So, talking of recipes and food, we drove to Silent Pool near Guildford in Surrey, to the newly opened Mandira’s Kitchen. I had been following Mandira herself when she was formerly known as the Surrey Spice. So, you are getting the flavour…. Yes, Mandira’s Kitchen is known as the ‘quintessentially Indian, award winning creator of fresh Indian food using fresh produce, family recipes, no preservatives and all frozen for your convenience. The PURPOSE of this business is so that you can buy produce directly from Mandira’s Kitchen, subscribe to a box, soon buy food from a stockist, have your own event catered for, attend a food tour and or have a cookery lesson. What is not to like!

As we arrived and got out of the car, we were greeted by the greenery and tranquillity of the location. We walked up to the newly renovated Barn that Mandira has painstakingly put back into glory, looked up and saw the wonderful bright orange logo of Mandira’s Kitchen. So, we had arrived at a beautiful PLACE that set the scene for our Spice Tour.

We arrived at the doors to the barn ( I am in the picture above ) to be greeted with a warm welcome by Mandira herself and her staff. A well-needed cuppa and a sit-down outside in the sun in front of an array of spices was welcome. Mandira proceeded to tell us about her life and upbringing and even told us she was never really able to cook! What a surprise as I can vouch that she can now! She talked us through lots of spices and the main 3 C’s and T (Sorry – I can’t give any more away than that) We were educated about what the spices were, their origins, flavours and uses. All I can say is WOW! – and I have now stocked up. I also might add that at last my pestle and mortar will be used in anger, rather than collecting dust in the cupboard. Amongst all of the chat, Mandira exuded her PASSION for food and the health connections to all the spices and wanting to share this with everyone.

At all times we felt welcomed and met the Shop and Kitchen staff ( PEOPLE ) and saw how they were all driven by their passion for spices and Indian food too. They absolutely loved sharing their knowledge and had time to talk to us and answer any questions. They were all kitted up in uniforms with Logos and they were proud to work for Mandira’s Kitchen.

So far, we have had 4 of the 5 P’s that I think are the recipe for success

  • PURPOSE
  • PLACE
  • PASSION
  • & PEOPLE

So, the last P is POWER. The power of your personality, product, service and connections that you have in your personal life and in business must never be overlooked or taken for granted. Mandira did not know that my sister had been the week before and ‘raved’ about Mandira’s Kitchen, I also needed somewhere to take my Hubby for a surprise and he loves curry and cooking. So, I booked tickets and hey presto! However, whilst talking to Mandira after the tour, we also found out that we have connections with our family too. What a small world……
I will certainly be ‘raving’ about Mandira’s Kitchen myself, cooking more with lots of lovely spices and of course will be back to Silent Pool to visit Mandira’s Kitchen again very soon.
