Professional services teams are increasingly recognising that CSR is not just something to understand for their own business. It is also becoming an important part of how they advise, support, and add value to their clients.

That is why it was such a pleasure to recently deliver another workshop, this time with the team at Ditton HR.

These conversations matter because CSR and responsible business practices are showing up in more places than ever before. They are influencing how businesses are perceived, how they build trust, how they respond to client expectations, and how they strengthen their own internal culture and external credibility.

What this session was about

This workshop was designed to help the team think more practically about CSR in the SME space.

Rather than treating it as something abstract or only relevant to larger organisations, the discussion focused on what CSR can look like in a smaller business, why it matters, and how HR professionals can play an important role in helping businesses think about it more clearly.

We explored how CSR connects to areas such as:

  • workplace culture
  • people practices
  • responsible leadership
  • client support
  • reputation and credibility
  • future-focused business thinking

Why was this so encouraging?

What stood out to me most was the level of interest in the room.

There was genuine curiosity, not only about what CSR means for Ditton HR as a business, but also about how this knowledge could support their clients too. That is exactly where these workshops can have such a strong ripple effect, because once one professional services team starts to understand CSR more clearly, they are often in a brilliant position to open up better conversations with the businesses they work with every day.

The feedback afterwards

I was especially encouraged to receive this feedback after the session:

“Many thanks for your time this morning, Alex – it was really interesting and something I definitely want to spend more time on for Ditton HR. Also, something we can discuss with some of our clients and how we can support them in this area.”

For me, that says a great deal.

It shows that the session did what I always hope these workshops will do: open minds, build confidence, and create momentum for further action.

What this tells me

More HR businesses, accountants, solicitors, and other trusted advisers are starting to see that CSR is not a side issue. It is becoming part of wider business conversations around values, culture, trust, evidence, client expectations, and long-term resilience.

For SMEs, that matters because many smaller businesses are already doing more than they realise.

They need help recognising it, structuring it, and talking about it in a way that is practical and credible.

Who is this workshop for

If you run an HR business, accountancy practice, legal firm, consultancy, or membership organisation and want your team to better understand CSR in a way that is relevant, accessible, and commercially grounded, these workshops are designed to do exactly that.

They are not about jargon or overwhelm.

They are about helping SMEs and the professionals who support them make sense of CSR, spot the opportunities, and build confidence in what responsible business can look like in practice.

Final thought

Every session like this reminds me that there is a real appetite to learn more, and that is encouraging.

Because the more we help SMEs and their advisers understand CSR properly, the more likely we are to see practical, measurable, and meaningful action grow across the small business community.
